Surgery 6/27/11

I had my surgery Monday morning.. I woke up way too early, couldnt eat, couldnt drink and was scared beyond belief.. Joe and I got the kids up and ready to go spend the day at Grandma Lynn's and Grandpa Steve's house.

Once I was checked in at the hospital I was given a room and was told to get ready.. they had way too many patients in for same-day-surgery and not enough staff on board.. it took the nurse a while to get back to me after she had me get in my gown.. they made me do a pregnancy test.. I laughed at the poor nurse when she told me I had to do one.. once she left to go get the restroom ready I sat there and prayed that God would make the test come back positive so I wouldnt have to go through with the surgery. I will admit I was very disapointed when the nurse and the anesthesiologist came back into the room. That just meant my test was negative and surgery was a go. The anesthesiologist scared me.. he talked about the breathing tube that they would put in and he talked about how I wouldnt remember things and blah blah blah..

Then my nurse came back in with all of the IV stuff.. first she injected some numbing stuff into my hand (that stung terribly) and then she did the IV.. I have a bruise on my hand and she didnt even have to dig because my veins were HUGE!

Once the IV was in my nurse went to find Joe.. He came in and sat and chatted with me for a few minutes until two nurses from the operating room came in to get me for the surgery.. Before they wheeled me out I teared up, gave Joe and kiss and told him I loved him. I wanted to tell him I was sorry but I couldnt do that without letting tears stream down my face so I bit my tongue. The one nurse injected some kind of 'drowzy' medicine into my IV and told me that it was going to make things fuzzy.. Well, that it did!! I dont remember a thing once that kicked in..

The next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room and itching from head to toe!! There were a couple of nurses that came in to check on me.. one finally scolded me for itching and told me to stop before I scratched my face off.. I wish I could have screamed at her! But instead I asked what the hell they gave me and she went to find out.. She came back and her words were "oh.. I guess I better get you some benadryl".. That right there gave me the answer I needed.. They gave me vicodin! It is all over my charts that I am allergic to vicodin and that it makes me itch!!!

My throat was itchy, my whole body itched, I was thirsty and I asked over and over again for them to get Joe!

Finally they brought me to my room and went to get Joe.. When he got in the room the nurse was in there with my discharge papers.. She noticed that the perscription that they left for me to take home was for vicodin. So she called the Dr (who had already left) and asked him to send over a write up for something different because I am allergic to vicodin. So.. Joe had to leave the hospital, go to the clinic and get the Dr to sign the new perscription.

When he came back I was already getting dressed and was ready for the day to be over.. I was tired and worn out.. not only because of the surgery and the narcotics, but because they added that ever so wonderful benadryl on top of it.. :)

We left the hospital around 11:30am and went to Target to get my meds filled. Joe offered to take me home first so I could rest but I insisted that I needed to be the one to get the medicine and some feminine products. I wouldnt even sit and wait for the meds to get filled.. I walked around the store looking at K-cups (for my awesome new Keurig coffee machine) and coffee cups..

Then I went home and slept for what seemed like the rest of the day..

Tuesday Joe went back to work and the kids stayed the night at grandma and grandpa's house monday so I was home alone.. I slept and rested again.. Same for Tuesday night, Wednesday and Wednesday night and all day today.. now the kids are finally home tonight. My recovery has been worse then I thought possible.. My stomach is swollen so bad that I look 5+ months pregnant. The gas has been pushing into my chest and now my head and face today so it has cause shortness of breath and terrible migraines.. I couldnt sit up or stand up for more then 10 minutes at a time without needing to go back to bed. Today I was up from 6:30am-11:30am doing laundry and cleaning and what not.. That kicked my (you know what)! That is when the gas started to build in my head and face.. So I laid down from 12pm-2:30pm.. Then Amy brought over a smoothie from Caribou and dinner for tonight. (we have been blessed to have friends bringing dinner over all week for us). After Amy left my dad came over for a while and then by the time he left, Joe was home from work. So I havent been in bed since 2:30.. I am really feeling it right now..

Joe and I picked up the kids, stopped at Old Navy in Burnsville, then went to Lori's house for some hair cuts.. I got a good 5-6" taken off of my hair. Joe got his buzzed and Miss Lily got her bangs cut..

Once we got home I packed the kids' clothes for the weekend. Yeah Auntie Vicki is coming over tomorrow morning so we can leave for Wisconsin and then Saturday all four of the kids will venture down to grandma Candi's and papa John's house. They are excited!!

Anyways its bedtime now and I really really need to lay down so asta pasta!!
